DSTP's are over!
The DSTP's are over for the 2009-2010 school year! Congratulations to all students for a successful testing season! Now, it is time to get the ball rolling again on school work.
Tomorrow the girl's softball team has an away scrimmage against Central Middle School at the Dover Little League Field. Good luck girls!
Dont forget our field trip to the Maryland Science Center is on Friday! Bring a bagged lunch and any spending money you may want. We will be leaving the school around 8:30ish and returning around 5:30ish. Electronics can be used on the bus, but not in the Science Center.
Enjoy the rest of your week :-)

DSTP is in full swing!!
SPRING IS ALMOST HERE!!!
Well it is that time again and we are on our second day of DSTP testing. Yesterday and today we are completing the Mathematics section of the DSTP.
On Monday and Tuesday we will be moving on to the Reading section of the DSTP. Remember to use your reading strategies when reading your passages. It helps you to stop and think about what is going on. These strategies include: question (ask yourself questions), clarify (identify parts of the passage or words you do not understand and try to have them make sense to you), summarize (sum up the section you have just read), visualize (paint a picture in your head or have the story play out into a movie in your head), connect (connect the story to other stories you have read or life experiences you have had), and evaulate. Use highlighters. Do not be afraid to mark up those test booklets! Highlight important words, sentences, or key points. Read the questions first so you have an idea of what you are looking for. It is okay to reread whenever you need to.
TAKE YOUR TIME! You have the entire day to finish so dont rush! We want you all to do well :-)
For my 6th grade Math- after DSTP we will be moving on to integers. We will be introducing integers, adding and subtracting integers, and multiplying and dividing integers. We will be utilizing number lines often within this lesson.
For 6th grade Reading and Writing- we did not spelling this week and probably will not next week either. Be sure to look over your old lists and make sure those words are still familiar to you. Not only will this help you become a better speller but also a better reader by exposing you to words that you would not have otherwise used. Use these words to expand your vocabulary.
7th grade Writing- after DSTP you will continue on with your short story. Be sure to have all of the pieces in by the due date so you do not fall behind. It is very hard to get caught up on writing pieces once you fall behind.
I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather (minus the rain we are supposed to get- which is better than snow).
