Congrats to the 7th grade!

Congratuations to the 7th grade for completing the DSTP!!!

Congrats to all of PCA on their hardwork during this last week of DSTP!

Report Cards did not go home last night as there was an issue with the system that loads the report cards. Hopefully the issue will be resolved and the report cards will go home with the students today.

In reading, we have picked up where we left off in The City of Ember. Be sure to keep up with your vocabulary and comprehension questions.

In writing we are looking at nouns and how to change them from their singular form to their plural form.

In Social Studies we are still working on the Stock Market Game!! Congrats to the team in 7B who is 1st place in the state. Keep it up guys.. we want to go to the awards dinner in May!!

Next Friday, March 27, 2009 is going to be the jeans day.

Tomorrow the Joe Corbi fundraisers are due.

There is an open house on Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 10am-2pm.

The gathering is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2009.

Halfway there!

7th grade is halfway through the DSTP's. We have Monday and Tuesday left to take the Reading test. Make sure you take it easy this weekend and get plenty of rest! We want everyone to do well!

NEXT TUESDAY (ST.PATRICKS DAY) is not a jeans day like previously announced due to DSTP. It has been moved to Friday, March 27, 2009.

Today is the last day of the marking period! Hopefully you made sure all of your work was turned in. Lets start the last trimester of great!!!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Its DSTP time already!

Today is the final day to turn in your essay material (the whole folder and everything that belongs in it). You should have your contract, outline, venn diagram, rough draft, peer edit sheet, final copy, and your presentation paper in it. Remember you presentation had to be completed by two adults who do not work at this school. Should you have any problems finding two adults, you need to have a signed note by your parent/guardian stating that.

Grade sheets where passed out to all Reading and Writing classes. If you have anything missing, make sure you get it in. The marking period ends on Friday, March 13, 2009. Report cards are scheduled to go home on Wednesday, March 18, 2009.

In Social Studies we are still playing the Stock Market Game. The students are now in their groups and have their jobs within that group. They have been researching and buying stocks with different companies. Each team was allotted $100,000 on the game to invest. It is important for students to use the news, newspapers, and/or the internet to research companies they want to invest in because we want them to do well and not lose their money. The stocks are based upon the current economic status. This is definitely a good time for them to practice.

DSTP:: Important things to remember!
  • GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP (its okay to go to bed a little early for these few nights of the test).
  • EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST!!!
  • BRING CALCULATORS ON WEDNESDAY (3.11.09) FOR THE 1ST MATH PORTION
  • DO NOT bring your cell phone into the classroom.. all cell phones will be removed from the classroom and held with the teacher for the day. This is a test security issue and we want to make sure that Providence Creek Academy follows all test security procedures.
  • Use process of elimination to narrow down your choices on the multiple choices. Mark off the ones you know ARE NOT the right answer. Hopefully that will leave you with one or two answers to choose from.
  • When answering short answer questions.. be sure to explain FULLY and to SHOW YOUR WORK! Even if you get the answer wrong, you may get some credit if you showed your work.
  • Read over everything that you answer or write. You want to double check to make sure you are confident with your answer.
  • Do not second guess yourself.. you were probably right the first time. Generally speaking, if you go and change your answers you will see that your first instinct was the right one.
  • DONT STRESS!!!! Yes, this is an important test, but stressing over it will only make it worse.
  • All we can ask is that you TRY YOUR ABSOLUTE BEST!

I am sure everyone will do well. Enjoy your week!

SNOW DAY!!

Hope everyone is enjoying their snow day! I can not believe how much we have gotten already!

Please make sure that if you have not turned in your final draft that you are working to finish it up today. Please be ready to turn it in tomorrow.

Reminder: DSTP begins next week. Make sure you are eating a big, healthy breakfast and getting plenty of rest. It is very important to do well on them. The 7th grade this year will only be taking the Reading and Math DSTP.. and will not participate in the Writing portion.

Stay warm and be safe on this snowy day!
