Its DSTP time already!
Today is the final day to turn in your essay material (the whole folder and everything that belongs in it). You should have your contract, outline, venn diagram, rough draft, peer edit sheet, final copy, and your presentation paper in it. Remember you presentation had to be completed by two adults who do not work at this school. Should you have any problems finding two adults, you need to have a signed note by your parent/guardian stating that.
Grade sheets where passed out to all Reading and Writing classes. If you have anything missing, make sure you get it in. The marking period ends on Friday, March 13, 2009. Report cards are scheduled to go home on Wednesday, March 18, 2009.
In Social Studies we are still playing the Stock Market Game. The students are now in their groups and have their jobs within that group. They have been researching and buying stocks with different companies. Each team was allotted $100,000 on the game to invest. It is important for students to use the news, newspapers, and/or the internet to research companies they want to invest in because we want them to do well and not lose their money. The stocks are based upon the current economic status. This is definitely a good time for them to practice.
DSTP:: Important things to remember!

DSTP:: Important things to remember!
- GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP (its okay to go to bed a little early for these few nights of the test).
- EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST!!!
- BRING CALCULATORS ON WEDNESDAY (3.11.09) FOR THE 1ST MATH PORTION
- DO NOT bring your cell phone into the classroom.. all cell phones will be removed from the classroom and held with the teacher for the day. This is a test security issue and we want to make sure that Providence Creek Academy follows all test security procedures.
- Use process of elimination to narrow down your choices on the multiple choices. Mark off the ones you know ARE NOT the right answer. Hopefully that will leave you with one or two answers to choose from.
- When answering short answer questions.. be sure to explain FULLY and to SHOW YOUR WORK! Even if you get the answer wrong, you may get some credit if you showed your work.
- Read over everything that you answer or write. You want to double check to make sure you are confident with your answer.
- Do not second guess yourself.. you were probably right the first time. Generally speaking, if you go and change your answers you will see that your first instinct was the right one.
- DONT STRESS!!!! Yes, this is an important test, but stressing over it will only make it worse.
- All we can ask is that you TRY YOUR ABSOLUTE BEST!
I am sure everyone will do well. Enjoy your week!

Stock Market Game
We have started going over the procedures and rules of the Stock Market Game. Today we read a passage about Hershey and answered questions on the passage. We also got to look at the website and how we are going to be researching, buying, and selling stock. The game starts across Delaware on Monday, March 2, 2009. The website is www.smgww.org.
Writing- make sure you are working on editing your rough draft. It would also be in your best interest to rewrite your rough draft. The better you make your rough drafts, the better your grade will be on your final draft. If you are working well on your rough draft and making the corrections necessary, we may be able to adjust your due date. If you need to do that, please come see Mrs. Lambert or me.
In Math we are working on Exponents. The main things you need to remember are what the base and exponent is and that you dont multiply base and exponent. You multiply the base number by itself the amount of times as the exponent says.

SSR book project
SSR BOOK REPORT CARTOON- DUE FEBRUARY 20, 2009 (worth 24 points)
You will create a cartoon of the events in your book. You will also include characters and setting information, along with the conflict.
1. Divde an 11" x 17" sheet of drawing paper into 8 same size boxes.
2. In the first square, draw a cover for your book. Include the Title, author, copyright date, publisher and number of pages. Draw a small picture.
3. In the second square, list your major and minor characters. Also write a general setting description (when and where does most of your story take place). If possible, draw a picture.
4. In the third square, label it EXPOSITION. Then, write one sentence to sum up the exposition portion of your book. Remember that exposition includes the characters, setting, and important background information. Draw a picture.
5. In the fourth square, write the label RISING ACTION. Then, write one or two sentences to sum up the major conflict and how it gets worse throughout the story. Draw a picture.
6. In the fifth square, write the label CLIMAX. Then write one sentence to sum up the turning point (usually, but not always, the most exciting part of the book- "the moment you've been waiting for"). Draw a picture.
7. In the sixth square, write the label FALLING ACTION. Then write one or two sentences to sum up the action after the climax. This action is generally not intense or stressful, and you can "feel" that the end is near. Draw a picture.
8. In the seventh square, write the label RESOLUTION. Then write one sentence to sum up the VERY END of the story. Draw a picture.
9. In the eighth square, you have a choice: write either a "Connect" or an "Evaluate" for your book. This should be no longer than 3 complete sentences. You may draw a picture or decorate the square if you have space, but it is not necessary.

SNOW DAY!
Well for the 2nd consecutive Wednesday we have had a SNOW DAY!!! PLEASE make sure you bring in your homework that was due Wednesday and Thursday when you come back to school. That includes your writing contract, noun poster, and your sentences or 5x each.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR WRITING TOPIC.. We dont want anyone to fall behind so we have to stay on top of the due dates! You must compare and contrast the books you are reading in Reading class (City of Ember and your SSR book)-(author to author, character to character, book to book, etc).
In math we also had homework to finish page 51 (3-6) and 52 (1-20) on multiplying positive and negative integers. Most of it was finished in class so you should not have much more to finish.
In Social Studies you should have finished reading Chapter 3 Section 2 (pages 65-70) and turned in your key terms and places. We will be continuing on with that section tomorrow when we return to school.
I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR DAY OFF!

There is a homework competetion going on in all of the middle school reading and writing classes. The competition is between each class in each grade as well as each grade against each grade. We are looking for 100% homework completion in each class. 7th grade needs to win this one!
After 10 days of everyone doing their homework in each class, Mrs. Lambert will bring in brownies for the class. I have offered to double that for the two classes that I am in.
COME ON AND GET YOUR HOMEWORK DONE!!!
There was no homework today in reading, writing, social studies, or math.
** if you did not complete the map activity for The City of Ember over the weekend, you need to make sure you get that done. We reviewed it today in class so there is no reason that you should not have it complete.
Friday, January 23, 2009 is pajama day.. bring in a $3.00 donation to wear your favorite comfy pj's to school.
PTO has separated the box top competition for the elementary school and middle school. The middle school class who brings in the most box tops will win the spirit cup. Make sure to bring in your box tops by the end of the month (which is next Friday).
Next Friday (January 30th) is also the gathering. If you did not have any referrals, detentions, or ISS then you are able to attend. Dont forget to bring your real money and PCA bucks to purchase food at the gathering.

Reading Homework
Reminder: There is no school on Monday, January 19, 2009 due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
7A reading does have homework over the weekend though. They have a map from the City of Ember and the City of Ember book. Starting on page 16 they are supposed to skim through the text looking for the pathroute that Lina took home from school. List the path on the back of the map so that it makes it easier for you to find the way. Mark the route on the map as well.
Today in Social Studies we watched a video and predicted what Chapter 3 is going to be about. We are going to be beginning Chapter 3: The Ancient Americas next Tuesday. We are going to be looking at North America, Middle America, and South America, specifically the Mayans, Incas, Aztecs, Pueblos, Mound Builders, and Anasazis. We will also be learning how to employ the reading strategies from reading class into Social Studies class.
Have a wonderful weekend. Stay warm!!!
