This Week

Well we have 7 more school days until holiday break.. I sure can not wait to sleep in :-)

Reading: Please make sure you get an independent reading book if you did not like the one you chose in class today. You must have your new book by Wednesday. You will begin reading it tomorrow and doing work in your reading log. You also have vocabulary homework due on Wednesday. You have to define the first five vocabulary words of The Ciy Of Ember. We will probably begin working with that book tomorrow as well. For those of you who purchased books, they should be in early this week hopefully.

Social Studies: We are beginning Chapter 2 Section 3 this week. Quiz retakes for Chapter 2 Section 2 will be on Friday. Next week we will begin a review game next week. When we return to school, we will play the review game again and then take the Chapter 2 test. Please make sure you get a little bit of studying in on your holiday break.

Writing: We are learning about and utilizing prepositions. We will have a new spelling list today. I will update my blog with the new words later today.

Math: DIVIDING DECIMALS.... YAY! We started going over the process and the rules for dividing decimals. We did a few practice problems together and everyone seemed to get it so far!

There is one more day to bring in Adpot-A-Grandparent money. Please support the elderly and sick during this holiday season of giving!

Adopt A Grandparent

The Student Council has been participating in the Adopt A Grandparent to help elderly in nursing homes. We have been asking our fellow middle school classmates to contribute at least $1.00 to help out. We are going to be working with another organization to construct baskets of necessities to give out this holiday season. All money has to be turned in by Monday, December 15, 2008. So if you would like to contribute just bring your money to Mrs. Lewis or any student council member. We appreciate all of your help during this time of the year.

We have also been working with different lower school classes to construct holiday cards for Adopt a Grandparent as well. The cards have been turning out great! Thanks to all of the lower school teachers who allowed us to come into your classrooms!

Spelling Words

This is week 3 of our spelling words. The students do not move on to a new spelling list until they have mastered the previous one. Each student knows what list they are on.

List #1: does, does, accept, except, their, they're, there, it's its, write, right, principle, principal, affect, effect, wear, ware, where

List #2 (includes words from list #1): too, to, hear, here, a lot, allot, then, than, weather, whether, piece, peace, your, you're, witch, which, passed, past

List #3 (includes words from list #1 and #2): desert, dessert, stationary, stationery, whose, who's, lose, loose, advise, advice, all ready, already, lead, led, because, cause, through, threw

As you can tell, these are words that are commonly misspelled and misused. The students need to know the spelling and the usage of each word. Please STUDY for these tests! It might help to write practice sentences so that you know you are using the words correctly.

FINAL in Reading

There is a study session today after school for the final in Reading. It is in Mrs. Lambert's room from 3:45-4:45. The FINAL is on Wednesday and Thursday.

If there happens to be any retakes for the final it will be after school or on Saturday.. not during school hours. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DO WELL ON IT!

Every class reviewed today. You need to know all of the concepts we studied in class NOT JUST THE STORIES!

You have a study guide for a reason, USE IT!!!!!

Reading Final Test!!

12 school days left until Christmas vacation!

There is a Reading final test on Wednesday for all classes. Please make sure you are studying everything we have learned so far this year, even vocabulary. You were given a list of everything that we have covered during this unit. We started making a study guide during class. You have 4 stories to look at: "Baseball Saved Us," "The Day the Sun Came Out," "Dragon's Pearl," and "The Cage."

In Social Studies we are ending Chapter 2 Section 2 with a quiz sometime next week. We will move on quickly to Chapter 2 Section 3.

In Math class we are working with decimals. Yesterday we started dividig decimals.

In Writing class we are starting our Preposition unit. We will be having a spelling test today.

Reminder that there is an agenda check EVERY FRIDAY. If you are missing 3 signatures (parent) then you will receive a referral with a consequence. If you are missing 10 signatures anytime during the trimester then you will receive a referral with a detention. We started a new trimester last week so this gives everyone a fresh start. If you need a new agenda book then please bring in $5.00 and get a new one from the main office.

Its December!!!

We have just started the month of December and a brand new trimester!!

Reports cards for the 1st trimester will be coming home on Thursday, December 4, 2008.

The holiday shop is open this week for students to do their shopping for their family members and/or friends. Please do not forget your money on the day that your class is scheduled to go. All 7th grade classes will be going on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 during their reading time. It will end on Friday, December 5, 2008. Anyone wishing to volunteer please contact PTO member Melissa Yoder.

Tomorrow is a Chapter 2 Section 1 quiz in Social Studies. Please make sure you are studying for it!!!

In Reading we just took a quiz on "The Cage." We will be moving on to a new story soon.

In Math, we are beginning to work with decimals. Right now we are working on adding and subtracting decimals. The important tip for this is that you line up the decimals. Use zeroes to fill in any empty spaces. After the decimals are lined up, you add or subtract like normal. As for the answer, you just drop your straight down.

Our new electives are starting today! If you do not remember what you have-please see me or any other teacher.

Have a great week!!
